I was filling a form for Dastarkhwan and one question made me pause:
What brings you here?
Anyways, here’s the real answer.
Food.
I really really love food.
As a kid, I was the one who would order something new and weird at restaurants.
My parents would always laugh saying, “there he goes again”.
And most of the time it would be a flop only haha.
But sometimes something would blow your mind away.
And that would make all the flops worth it.
Fun fact: the first time I had tiramisu in my life was at a KFC in Oman.
I still find that so funny. Like, of all places, KFC? In Oman? But that’s how a lot of food memories are no. It doesn’t have to be some fancy restaurant with perfect lighting. Sometimes it just randomly shows up between fries and fried chicken.
When I went to Vietnam a few years ago, my trip was basically organized around places I wanted to eat at more than things I wanted to see.
I did tourist things also, but the real itinerary in my head was:
- Where do I get the best banh mi?
- Where do locals eat?
While researching for that trip, I came across a food blog called Will Fly For Food.
That name stuck with me.
Because yeah.
I will fly for food fr.
I loved Bánh mì so much that if I wasn’t working in tech, I think I would open a Bánh mì shop in Bangalore.
I’ll sell shawarma also because I love em.
I grew up in Oman. 1 shawarma is never enough.
Other than food, I love music. I play a few instruments and try to sing sometimes: instagram.com/sanjeed.i
That’s it. I guess I just really love food.
